Another printer bites the dust

I see that another local printer has gone under this week. Prometheus in Tonbridge.

As a litho printer myself, I feel very sorry for the staff in particular and also all the suppliers that have been left owing many thousands of pounds. There have been several local firms that have gone the same way in the last 2 years as the recession bites. In truth the ones that have gone have been the weakest financially and arguably the most fly. There are still several good firms in the area which have sound financial footing and admirable trading records but all are heavily affected by the current financial crisis. Everyone wants their print for nothing and yet our costs are rising. Paper in particular has risen by 40% in the last 12 months.  I hope that all the Meejahubbers try to support local print companies where-ever possible as without that backing, there will almost certainly be other casualties.
