Hotel du Vin raises a glass to the ‘Hub

MeejaHub, the networking group for media and creative professionals, is hosting its next event on Wednesday 22 October from 6pm. The venue for this and forthcoming MeejaHub events is the Hotel du Vin in Tunbridge Wells.

MeejaHub is the social (and business) networking group that brings together creative and media professionals in the Tunbridge Wells area. Over a drink, preferably, or via the website at www.meejahub.co.uk, members can meet and exchange news and gossip.

The aim of the group is two-fold. Firstly, it brings media people together in a no-pressure, friendly - and hopefully amusing - environment. Secondly, it promotes Tunbridge Wells as a centre for creative industries. The Hotel du Vin is seen as being integral to this mission, as the perfect venue for media people.

Ruth Atkin, Business Development Manager South East for Hotel du Vin Limited, says: “Hotel du Vin is delighted to be associated with MeejaHub and their mission to put Tunbridge Wells on the map as a 'media town'. We are keen for the hotel to be the equivalent of Soho's Groucho Club for media and creative professionals in
Tunbridge Wells.”

Ruth also has responsibility for the Brighton Hotel du Vin, already a favourite with Brighton’s media professionals.

MeejaHub launched at the Hotel earlier this summer and membership levels are growing fast. Future event dates - to be held at The Dom Perignon Gallery at the Hotel du Vin - are Wednesday 19 November and Wednesday 17 December. There are also plans to apply for ‘not for profit’ status and have a presence at the Kent 2020 business exhibition next year.

As the nature of media grows and changes so does the manner in which people in the field meet and exchange ideas. London-based media networking group ‘Media 121 Club’ launched last month, with a similar ethos and approach to the ‘Hub.

MeejaHub is the brainchild of three Kent-based media/creative professionals. Gaynor Edwards of Torpedo Juice, Jez Timms of JN Squared and Stephen Fleming of Copythatworks. Together they recognised that Tunbridge Wells had a growing media community and there was a need for a ‘club’ where media and creative types could meet online and off-line.

“People who have come along to the events have quickly understood what we were trying to achieve. It’s not about egos or agendas, it’s just a bunch of interesting people getting together because they work in similar creative fields,” says Gaynor.

MeejaHub membership costs just £10 per month and gives free entry to all standard meetings, including wine and canapes (on a first come first served basis). The group also provides members with an interactive online forum and space to upload profiles and portfolios. The site also gives access to media information, support, leads and jobs*. In the coming months MeejaHub will secure discounts at local restaurants and preferential rates for selected local services, available exclusively to members.

A recruitment section to the site is currently being created. Tunbridge Wells Lioness Consultants are among several recruitment companies who have been offered space on the site.

“Given the current economic climate and the fast-moving nature of media industries, it’s expected that the recruitment section will be well visited and prove invaluable to media people in the area,” says Gaynor.
