Why Do Photographers Charge So Much?

A good one (hopefully!) to show prospective clients...

One thing that seems to surprise those that require photographic services is the cost. “Why should we pay several hundred pounds”, they cry, “for someone to waltz into our office, whip out a Lumix, snap some head-shots and then email them to us?” 

The simple answer is this; there is a lot, lot more involved in professional photography than initially meets the eye. Below is a quick, non-exhaustive, breakdown of why you pay what you do:

Anyone can point a Lumix or similar camera but professional photographers spend thousands on Pro Equipment to do a Pro job. We carry over £30,000 worth of imaging equipment. Many people argue that a real 'Pro' does not need an expensive camera. Well these people probably do not understand modern digital media!  Anyone looking to get a days work from a professional digital photographer should budget between £800 - £1,000.
